Membership and Lineage Verification System

The Membership and Lineage Verification System exists to:

  • Establish a clear and consistent standard for membership
  • Protect the integrity of Black American International Union (BAIU) identity
  • Ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability
  • Build a verified membership body capable of collective action

I. Membership Categories

1. Verified Black American International Union Member (BAIU Member)

A Verified BAIU Member is an individual whose lineage meets the criteria defined by the Black American Constitution and has been reviewed and approved through the verification process.

Rights

  • Voting rights in organizational matters
  • Eligibility for leadership positions
  • Participation in internal decision making
  • Access to member resources and programs

2. Provisional Member

A Provisional Member is an individual in the process of verification.

Rights

  • Participation in meetings and events
  • Access to educational resources
  • No voting rights until verified

3. Allied Supporter Member

An Allied Supporter is an individual who does not meet BAIU lineage criteria but supports the mission.

Rights

  • Participation in public events and programs
  • Support roles within committees
  • No voting rights on lineage, identity, or governance matters

II. Lineage Criteria

To qualify as a Verified BAIU member, an individual must demonstrate one or more of the following:

1. Documented Lineage

  • Connection to individuals recorded in United States historical records prior to or during early American development
  • Evidence of ancestry tied to populations impacted by the Transatlantic Slave Trade within the United States

2. Multi Generational U.S. Presence

  • Family lineage rooted in the United States across multiple generations
  • Evidence of historical continuity within the American context

3. Historical Classification Link

  • Ancestral connection to individuals historically classified as:
    • Indian
    • Negro
    • Mulatto
    • Creole
    • Colored
    • Black
    • African American

4. Community and Cultural Continuity

  • Demonstrated connection to Black American communities, traditions, or historical identity

III. Verification Methods

Applicants may qualify through one or more of the following tiers:


Tier 1: Primary Documentation (Highest Level)

Strongest verification:

  • Census records
  • Birth certificates
  • Death records
  • Marriage records
  • Military records
  • Land or property records
  • Historical registries

Tier 2: Supporting Documentation

Used when primary documentation is limited:

  • Church records
  • School records
  • Obituaries
  • Family Bibles
  • Migration records
  • Archived documents

Tier 3: Family Testimony and Oral History

  • Documented family history
  • Recorded oral accounts
  • Supporting statements from relatives

Tier 4: Community Recognition

  • Recognition within established Black American communities
  • Historical ties verified by community members

IV. Lineage Review Council

Purpose

The Lineage Review Council serves as the official body responsible for reviewing and approving membership applications.


Composition

The Council shall include:

  • Director of Membership and Lineage Review
  • Historical Research Representatives
  • Regional or Community Representatives

Responsibilities

  • Review all applications
  • Verify submitted documentation
  • Request additional information when needed
  • Approve or deny membership
  • Maintain verification records

V. Verification Process

Step 1: Application Submission

Applicants must provide:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Family lineage information
  • Supporting documentation

Step 2: Initial Review

  • Documentation is reviewed for completeness
  • Applicant may be assigned Provisional status

Step 3: Verification Review

  • Lineage Review Council evaluates evidence
  • Additional documentation may be requested

Step 4: Decision

  • Approved → Verified Member
  • Pending → Provisional Member
  • Denied → Explanation provided

Step 5: Record Maintenance

  • Approved members are added to official records
  • Documentation is securely stored

VI. Appeals Process

Applicants may appeal a denial.

VII. Fraud Prevention

Prohibited Actions

  • Submitting false documents
  • Misrepresenting lineage
  • Attempting to bypass verification

Consequences

  • Immediate denial
  • Membership revocation
  • Permanent ineligibility

VIII. Privacy and Data Protection

  • All personal and lineage information shall be protected
  • Access limited to authorized personnel
  • Records maintained securely

IX. Membership Responsibilities

All members must:

  • Provide truthful information
  • Respect the verification process
  • Uphold the Constitution and Code of Conduct
  • Support the mission of the organization
